GreenOFDM a new method for OFDM PAPR reduction : application to the Internet of Things energy saving

Abstract : This work is devoted to the study of the OFDM modulation and more particularly to its high PAPR problem.A solution for the reduction of the PAPRs, called GreenOFDM, is proposed. Its performance is analyzed and compared with two other techniques available in the literature, the achieved performance of GreenOFDM is very promising. The computational complexity of this technique is analyzed in order to achieve an efficient implementation on a programmable processor. Two methods are proposed to reduce the total number of operations of the GreenOFDM technique; their performance is obtained by computer simulations. We show how it is possible to considerably reduce the number of operations and to obtain an efficient digital implementation. In fine, to demonstrate the efficiency, the energy cost of implementing GreenOFDM in a programmable processor is analyzed and compared to the energy consumption of the analog part of the transmitter. A comparison in terms of energy consumption with other modulation techniques is also carried out.
